cab heater
"eaton auto heater model 55-105 12v" its whats in the cab of my project truck and i was wandering if it was a upgrade heater or an after market one.
parts repair / rebuild advice as it currently is not working and i cant see putting in original heater as this is such a neat and small unit, if working.

What's wrong with it? If the core leaks, replace it if it's corroded, or patch it if it is frost-split.
If the fan doesn't run, find out if it's the motor or the wiring to it (or the switch). If the motor is dead, scrounge a similar one from another heater.
Since you brought it up. How would you go about finding a replacement core for an aftermarket heater? I have one, but not sure how good the core is. I'm hesitant to use it unless I can find a source for a new core...
If you can't track down the original manufacturer and get a replacement through them, a radiator shop could make up a new core for you (for a price...). Or, hunt around the scrap yard for a core which can be persuaded to fit, maybe by splicing the pipes, or cutting some different holes in the heater case.
Or if you want a like-new aftermarket heater, buy a new one. There's got to be some models that haven't changed since the 1950's.
