It is entirely possible to get a Class A driver's license (CDL or private) without taking the air brake tests. Without taking the tests to show you have knowledge about the operation of air brakes, you cannot operate a vehicle that uses them... at least, this is how it is done in Texas. By passing the air brake knowledge test, you get what is known as an air brake endorsement on your license. It is not very common to take the exams for a Class A license without using a vehicle equipped with air brakes, and thus Class A licenses without an endorsement for air brakes is rare.

Would you like to argue haz-mat endorsements, too?
You can google "unicorns" but that doesn't mean they exist.

Yes i did click it. Did you bother to click on the first search result? Here it is for you.

Commercial Driver's License Program (CDL/CDLIS) - Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

CDL in any class without a "air brake endorsement" is the norm seeing how an air brake endorsement doen't exist(in the states).

Only a baffoon would continue to argue that there is an air brake endorsement on a TX, or any other US state, CDL.

Here, since you obviuosly can't look it up for yourself.

Code Endorsement

T Double/Triple Trailer

P Passenger

N Tank Vehicle

H Hazardous Material

X Combination of N and H

S School Buses

Code Restriction

M Intrastate Only (commercial motor vehicle)

L No Air Brakes

L No Air Brakes
ahem... did you read what you wrote?

from your own link:

If a driver either fails the air brake component of the general knowledge test or performs the skills test in a vehicle not equipped with air brakes, the driver is issued an air brake restriction, restricting the driver from operating a CMV equipped with air brakes.

I didn't write that. I copy and pasted it from the TEXAS CDL manual. Did you read that? Reading IS fundamental.

If you fail the air brakes portion you get a RESTRICTION.

If you pass you get.................NOTHING or in other words a regular standard unrestricted CDL.

I love not being wrong.

yes and a "restriction" would be a lack of an air brake endorsement.

Since it is more common to get the endorsement than not, it is easier to default to having no markings mean the driver has the endorsement, and indicating on the license when the driver does not have it. ...saves ink, too.

NO, it doesn't.

Using that asinine reasoning. Do you have an interstate endorsement?

In IL we have Class which I carry BM my whole licence is a CDL we can take our class B and not take our air brakes because of old single vehicles that had vacuum brakes. The M stands for motor cycle then we list endorsements then restrictions. Still id like to know since I already have my air brakes on my class b can we take a pickup truck and trailer in to do the driving skills test for our class A or would they place a restriction on the A?

You could do that here and get an unrestricted class A.

you mean no M, and USDOT numbers?

are you really trying to say that an interstate endorsement doesn't exist now?

USDOT number has nothing to do with it.

Are you going to say an interstate endorsement does exist? Never mind we have seen your reasoning.

I am going to have to read that book before we can continue this discussion. Wait I can't think of the name of the book.........Oh here it is.

USDOT number has nothing to do with it.
it does if you're not going to switch vehicles at the state line.

More "facts" huh jack?

It is possible to need a CDL but not need USDOT numbers when transporting interstate. Think personal exemption.

that wouldn't be commercial, now would it?

You're right, it is possible to need a class A, but not need USDOT numbers.

not all class A's are CDL

Ummm....Yes, it would.

Back to that reading thing. You really should read up on the definition of commercial motor vehicle when used in interstate commerce.

Yup just like it is possible to need a class A CDL and not need USDOT numbers.

Just like it is possible to need USDOT numbers and not a need a CDL.
