1967 F-100. My charge light indicator at the dash does not light up at all! I just installed a one wire alternator, but if I recall correctly it was not working before either. I tied into the green/red wire from the voltage regulator but, it still does not work. I had 11.87 volts at the battery while the truck was running and again when it was off. What could be the problem. It is wired exactly as it is supposed to be. Loose belt check? I also had the alternator bench tested this morning and it is definitely good. What's next?
Secondly I finally got all of my lights working, except hazards, but now as soon as I pull out the switch for my headlights and turn it for dome lights it instantly blows a fuse. ???
Make sure you have voltage on the green/red with the key in run. You can hot wire the green/red to the battery temporarily and see if it will charge.
touche. Franklin strikes again! I will check after this funky *** storm passes.
also, that gen light only comes on when I pull out my headlight switch to activate my headlights. it comes on just like another dash light. i know its the right one because it is the green/red wire. when exactly is it suppose to come on? does it stay on? on if something is wrong?
now that i write this it makes me think. i should have tried to check the voltage with the headlights on, since it comes on then. possibly wired wrong?
another problem I am having is with testing circuits at the fuse panel. the minute i put my test light on a fuse it blows in a major way. I tried to test the cigarette lighter element and it arched like nuts! What could cause this? Could I be lacking a good ground? Can you come out to Louisiana and help me fix this darn truck! LOL!
Franklin. This thing will not charge no matter what! We have tried to wire it direct. So on and so on. It just will not increase voltage to the battery. WE even took it off and took it to be tested again. any ideas? what else can we try?
If it's wired correctly, it should work. Nothing much else I can do over the computer.
Franklin, finally! Damn alternator had a bad rectifier inside of it! Still can't understand how the guy got it to charge at his shop but oh well, it now works! Thanks for all your help!
