Hey all, I have a E99 F350 SC 4x4 7.3L w/ 285/75R16s. Im having a type of steering issue with it right now...when I turn my wheel (mostly turning right) it tries to kick back. and while driveing straight if i move it slightly one way or another (just keeping it straight on the road) it will kick and if your not ready for it it will put in the the other lane. Mind you this doesnt happen all the time, some days it wont happen at all and others its all day. Also i just did a 4 wheel brake job, left rear caliper, front left brake hose, and I rotated my tires. After I did that this is when it all started happening. I have asked many people what they thought and they are just as stumped as me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
225000 miles. The steering gearbox in it is a used one from when I got into an accident a month after i got the truck. I believe it was End of May beginning of June last year
I dont believe they (body shop) replaced the pitman arm but they could have and if they did it probably came on the gear box when they got it. But would it start happening after all this time? I have never had this issue before
My truck did the same thing and it was a u-joint that was seized up on oneside. It only did it if the u-joint was turned a certain way.I would turn a corner and the steering wheel would fly back to the straight position.I also had a similiar issue when one of the factory ball joints dried up it would kinda of lockup going straight down the road and I would go into the other lane when I was trying to go straight.

Exactly what mine did as well, except after turning straight, my wheel would violently rock back and forth until I would pull over, turn the wheel one way or the other repeatedly, and it would un*uck itself.
I was having similar issues with my 05 F350 and it really made for an scary ride. After having my truck for almost 10 days, the dealer wasn't able to track down the cause of the problem. I finally had my brother( a former ford tech) take a look at it and he was able to diagnose the problem the same day. I went back to the dealer with the diagnosis and they replaced the axle joints under warranty but never really admitted the egg they had on their face. After the new axle joints my truck handles much better and the service manager offered my brother a job which he promptly turned down.
