draining batteries

Why is it that after a 99 or 2000 sets for about two weeks the batteries are drained and one has to jump the trucks to get them started.
I have a 99 that did it and a friends 2000 has the same problem.
Mine did it years ago and I took it to the Ford dealer (who is not around anymore) and paid $800.00 to have some electrical componet changed out down by the emergency brake. That was suppose to fix the problem. But it did not.
Somebody please tell me what the problem is!

A bad alternator would be my guess, mine just gave up the ghost today. I noticed dimming lights last week and after checking everything, bad alt.

Is your alternator warm to the touch before you start the engine for the first time of the day? If so, a diode could be bad inside the alternator.

If not, how long has it been since you checked the "reserve capacity" of your batteries?

I don't think all 99 or 2000 PSD have that problem. My 99 has never had that problem. I have lost a alternater before. Theres no charging meter, it only shows whats in the system. Therefore when driving it will go down slowly till your out of juice. Good luck, I hate electrical problems, I'm not really good at them. Chet
