FRx spring

Just got my frx in the mail yesterday. Will be putting it on possibly this weekend. What spring should I use? I was going to use the black one which is the highest pressure. I was thinking the more the better in this case. Am I wrong? Would using that one be the best?

Clay recommended using the gold one. Not sure exactly why but others can chime in on that. Have you already started the install? The plugs were a little bit of a pain to get loose. WD 40 and pb blaster over a few days made life a lot easier. Greg's tips in this thread helped out a lot. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...n-my-butt.html

Whatever spring you use be certain it is not cocked when install is complete. A cocked spring pegged my 100 PSI fuel gauge.

Personally I would not alter the FPR without a fuel gauge and would also install an FPR rebuild kit.

I installed the factory spring in my GEN 2 FRx, I see 65-67 psi normally and 60-62 psi under WOT. My gauge sender is located post filter.

Robin makes a good point, you should always verify your mods before and after. You can pick up an inexpensive fuel pressure test gauge at most auto parts stores. I think even Harbor Freight sells them pretty cheap. That will allow you a baseline and a post mod reference to use.........besides it gives a reason to buy more tools!

I just put my FRx on this past weekend and used the GOLD spring. Truck runs fine. Those two square head plugs are pure H*** to get out! I also done the HPX, nice to kill two birds with one stone while things are apart...........

There are two test ports in the fuel bowl. The one on the drivers side (easiest access) is pre-filter, the one at the bottom on the passenger side is post filter (pressure the heads see).

Just use the plug you remove from the other port. Any #4 ORB plug or fitting will work, they are 7/16"-20 threads.
