looks in okay shape compared to some i have seen but if you can find a similar year, you could strip it out of the old truck and replace, or build a new one from what you have. what is the little cylinder thing in the first pic?
It's like a condensor from a gasser ignition it goes on the voltage regulator and i'm told its somethimg for radio frequency And the wires have burn marks the lenth of them
have any mech shops around you that specialize in electronics, they could make one easy for you. I had the same little thing and i was told it was something for the ground? Removed it three days ago. worthless. i dont think my mech engine needs to worry about RF.
The little condenser thing is to stop interference with your RADIO, you know the thing that picks up radio signals and plays music. Its a pretty standard issue part for most any vehicle I think. We all know our engines are mechanical and don't care about RF.
If the insulation near the connectors look good, trim them close enough to solder a new wire on. Do it one wire at a time so you don't have to worry about connecting things wrong, and use a thicker wire. if properly done will last the rest of the trucks life.
That being said, it would be easier to just swap in a known good one. Uhaulparts had something listed for an alternator harness, I don't know if it would be the right one, may have been from an E-350?
Ya the E-350 is for a 94 and that has the newer style alt in it. The alt side looks ok but the truck side all the pig tails are melted and distiorted. Preferably id like to find a harness. Oh and whats that big tootsie roll thing at the end for? Big fuseable link?
funny thing is that when i removed the thing, the buzzin i heard on certain channels went away. go figure, and yes i know R A D I O, its a thingy that gets them magic waves and makes super sounds from them sound cones. jeez.
The problem is that i need the connectors on the truck side also because the wires are burned inside them too. Its like the whole thing when in the oven. Ideally id like to find a harness new or used that just isn't burned. They are easy to take off theres no cutting involved and the ones i found around here in the junk yard have been cut up when someone took the alt.
