Computer mechanics.........

OK all you net mechanics , who wants to help me get a truck going?

The victim is a 94.5 Powerstroke F-350 4x4
Flatdeck XLT.

Its been sitting for a couple of years.

Doesnt turn over very well and I know it needs glowplugs or a controller.

Where to start and what to do?

First the motor's gotta turn over good, so good batteries is a start. Test the gpr and replace if needed, good fuel and filter in it, crank away. Report back if its smoking while cranking, and anything you can think of that could be helpful. Wait to start light work normal, etc.

The best test is to make sure there is battery voltage (key on ) on both of the large posts ..

ifyou can plug it in for a few hours, plug that sucker in.

Get some new batteries it and fire it up after checking or changing the oil.
I'd change the oil.

Bad oil can make it harder to start.

Block heater will help warm the motor up to help it come out.

Hopefully this thing is sitting in your drive way, so plug it in for 4 or 5 hours to warm the block up and then change the oil.

Ok I pulled it today and it started right up.

The plug for the ICP is oily I heard somewhere that means its no good?
How can I test it?

The truck has poor throttle response.
When you step on it nothing happens , then it slowly picks up revs and will rev up.
I drove it down the street and its the same , it seems dead then will pick up revs and speed.
Any ideas about that?

Clean the FPR and fuel bowl.

Leave the ICP unplugged.
But oil doesn't mean its bad, but its one of the signs of it being bad. Mine has oil in it, but its just fine.

Check the map line for breaks in it or clogs.
That will cause the poor throttle response also.

the map sensor is located in the engine compartment on the passenger side firewall. it has a 3-wire connector on it and a hose going down to the passenger side intake. make sure that hose isnt clogged and that it is connected to the map sensor and intake.
search the forum with the words(map sensor) and you will find a lot of info.
same with the fpr(fuel pump regulator)it is bolted to the drivers side of your fuel bowl, i found good instructions on dissassembly and cleaning at www.dieselorings.com

use the forum search, there is a lot of good information on just about everthing. Good luck with your project.

yeah, there is a lot of FPR cleaning posts on the site here.

Its on the fuel bowl though, there is some screens in there that get clogged up.

The map line is the one your thinking off. check it for cracks or clogs.

If you get the FPR cleaned up, you should be doing alright. I'm sure you found lots of stuff floating around after its sat for awhile and its just all collected in the fuel bowl.

You can take the FPR right off the bowl in the truck and clean it if your carefull.

OK cleaned the screen on the fuel bowl , it had a bunch of stuff stuck on it.
Checked MAP lines.

Truck still does the same thing , but when it starts clearing up and revving it shoots out a bunch of blue smoke.
