Will someone tell me where to get a set of head gaskets for a 390 that have the water jackets both front and back, I have looked at both Fel-Pro and Victor gaskets. Im not sure of the year of the block. Any comments would help.
I'm pretty sure that the gaskets are the way they are for a reason. i.e. proper flow of coolant through the heads. I've never seen any advertised that were any different than the fel-pro or Victor in regards to the jackets. Not saying there aren't any out there, just that I've never seen/heard of any.
Like John said, the gaskets are designed to direct the water flow. Water pump sends the coolant back through the block first, then up the back of the heads. Then it comes forward through the heads and out the front into the intake manifold.
Reason the heads have holes on both ends is so you can run them on either side of the engine. The block has the front holes for letting out the casting sand.
