oil pressue problems
recently had my rear main and oil pan gasket changed, along with oil sending unit....truck drives fine, but after about 10 minutes of city driving, the oil pressure gauge dives to zip when it goes to a low idle,( stop signs, in park). when i resume speed pressure goes back to normal. no noises, clanking, nothing.but the gauge dives. It only does this after engine is warmed up...any thoughts? gauge?aftermarkert sender? pump? mechanic had it for a week and is totally baffled...has good pressure at idle in his shop.

You're relying too much on a "smart" idiot light. It's a resistance based gauge not a real pressure gauge. If you want to know what it is you need to install an aftermarket gauge from sunpro or another good company.

Maybe the sending unit is the wrong one, or faulty. Perhaps the wire end is not seating properly on the pin on the sending unit. It's possible that the installer used pipe dope on the threads and the sender is not grounding properly? I understand that the oil pick up tube has to be removed to pull the oilpan to replace the gasket, Was it cleaned when it was removed and was it re-installed properly? Other than that the only true way to test the oil pressure is to install a mechanical guage to monitor the oil pressure
