what would it take to put a ZF 5 speed in a 2000 F150 regular cab short bed 2WD 4.2L V6, currently running (sort of) with the M5ODR2?
rear is a 3.55 open axle.

is there anyone out there with experience in this? i'm facing rebuilding or replacing my M5 and after what I've learned here and elsewhere, that seems like throwing good money after bad.
i looked into a tremec, but that's 4 grand plus by the time i drive out with it. good tranny, but that's expensive overkill for this V6. i'm hoping the ZF would be a cheaper swap.
