We may try to switch the coils because he just had all of his plugs replaced within the last year or two. His plugs were very hard for the mechanic to get out and ended up spending alot of money on them... Hopefully its just the coil
took the truck to Autozone today and had the codes read. no codes so i decided to change all the plugs and boots. WOW! 12 bucks each for the plugs and 15 bucks each for the boots. i sold a diesel truck last year because it was to expensive to work on!! one molre thing. i have a tapping noise comming from the front of the engine sounds like its comming from the right bank head up front. took it to a local mechanic he says its the timing chain. and will run around $500-600 dollars to change both chains. anybody agree with this. the truck has 128,000 miles on it.
you changed out the plugs? about the tapping....ccomon problem most likely a cam pahser....there's a ford TB about this and it says if the noice bothers you switch to 10W40. I swtiched to deisel 5W40 and my ticking reduced drastically. Before you do a chain replacement ...google the 10 cent cam phaser modification and see how that works.
