ANother ? guys. Installed my f/p gauge, and at idle and normal driving, zf6, not into the turbo...etc, seeing 68/69 psi. With heavy foot, into the turbo, the pressure drops to 62/63 psi. The second i let off, it climbs back to 68/69 psi. Is this right/in the "ballpark"?
good question. Considering the pressure sensor, i located it in/on the fuel bowl port, pass. side. Seemed, that try'n to get it on driv. side, the hpop line got in the way.
pass side is post filter and those are some good numbers
when iu did mine i replaced the fuel filter at the same time so i had a base number and if i saw it drop more psi than normal i knew it was time to replace the fuel filter
Appreciate the info, Jim. The filter, both bowl and pre-pump were replaced about 4k mles ago. Now with the gauge, you gave me an answer as to when its a good time to replace either or/both...thanks man.
Well, yesterday, had a chance to run her. At idle, its at 68-70psi, and into the turbo, she falls to 62/63psi, then bac kup, once let off. I did notice though, while b.s.ing with my bro, with truck idling, and it was warmed up to operating temp, that one moment, the needle spiked to 75-78ish psi, and when it did this, the truck had a little "shimmy" to it, then nuetralized out, back to 68-70psi. That "shimmy", was only for about a second or 2. Prior to F/P gauge install, the truck has always done that "shimmy" from time to time, at idle, not ALL the time, but here and there. But now with a gauge, noticed it, and so did the gauge. Wondering now, if something aint right, somewhere? You guys gotta idea?
My pre-pump filter is 30micron, just incase ? was asked. And both filters were replaced about 5-8k ago.
Your numbers are what I see doing the same tests. I have not seen a 75 psi spike, but If you are hard on it and let off, I can easily see that happening though.
Are you sure you are not chasing ghosts? Unless you see it repeatably I would leave it alone. The shimmy you felt could be many things, a 5-8 psi increase in the fuel pressure doesn't seem like it would be one of them.
You can pull it apart and make sure it is clean and burr free. If you find something wrong you can get a rebuild kit from Clay or Bob. FPR Rebuild Kit
The brass poppet has a seal on it that keeps it from leaking when seated.
Alright.....i'll watch the gauge more tomorrow. i'll be doing about 200 miles, so, i'll take a gander. Gotta few buks, so wanted to get a few things. Got g.p.'z, and was think'n, since in there, to install new pushrods, along with an AD where the longlead inj. is. Got this darn tick/tap noise, at idle
Been a few days for a follow up, and think it had to do something with the fuel. Since then, i filled ur up, dumped in a bottle (32oz) of oil, and sit'n on 1/2 tank, but (knock on wood), it has yet to act up, on all sorts of driving conditions... :-)
