Is it normal that the coolant temperature gauge sender is really difficult to get out. I don't want to break anything. 351w. And its not reverse rotation or anything?
No stupid questions around here. We're all here to learn from one another.
If it's the factory sender and has never been removed, then yes, it's probably normal. It should not be reverse threaded. If all you're trying to do is replace the sender, you'll probably be okay to apply some low heat [such as a propane torch] to it.
Don't be too afraid of putting some force into it.
Thanks. It probably is the factory sender. I'll put some force into it. Just usually in my line of work if you have to put to much force into it your probably doing it wrong.
I usually use a 3/8" airgun turned down almost all the way
barely enough to hold the socket with my hand just to rattle
the penetrant in.and go back and forth a 1/16th of a turn or less, at a time
and TAKE your time.
If it's real bad, I'd get a surface mounted temp
ending unit and just glue it to the head.
Oh wait, does that unit send temp signals to the computer?
or just the gauge..
Thanks. Just usually in my line of work if you have to put to much force into it your probably doing it wrong.
Amen! There is smart people out there after all!!!! GL bud! As he said above, lil heat should work well. Flash cooling it works wonders also. I keep a full dish detergent bottle next to the torches at all times. It will break the worst parts free ...
I'll have to try these options. I don't have heat available. But i'll try some pb blaster. I'm a bit **** about having all my gauges work as its one of the few features my truck has. LOL.
@Bankrupter I usually work on computer and printers, they dont like force. Everything should just go in. Just friday my boss was telling me how where a couple thousand dollar printer was damaged at a place he used to work buy having the trays forced in and it bent the frame of the printer thus making it a pile of junk. This was while i was putting new rollers and fuzer in a printer.
