front driver's side connection of cab to frame. Three questions.
1. Is it repairable?
2. What is the point on the cab where it connects called?
3. Is it dangerous to leave it as is?
1. It appears to be, but without really seeing it in person, it's kinda hard to tell.
2. The piece that is so rusted away is called the front cab mount.
3. Yes it very well could be dangerous. If it completely crumbles away, it could cause the cab to drop or shift, which could lead to the steering binding up or loss of clutch control or who knows????
My suggestion would be to get a qualified bodyman or a person you trust that knows about such things to have a look at it. If you decide to repair it, shoot me a PM, I have the majority of the parts you need and I would make you a good deal on them. I bought them for my truck when I rebuilt the floor pans but ended up not needing them. If your cab is too far gone, You may be better off finding another cab that is in good shape then swapping it out for your cab. Post some more pics of the floorboards etc. from underneath the truck and we can probably give you a better idea of what can be done.
There is a fair amount of rot in the floorboards. mostly on the drivers side. There was some sort of pliable rubberized mat glued onto the driver's side that prevented me from seeing the extent of the rot from below.
looks like someone may have half assed it at on point. it can be fixed though, they make those panels to replace them. my high boy looked the same but i found a sweet deal on a freshly repaired cab that i couldnt pass up. if you think thats bad, this pic may make you think you have a mint truck.
this is not my highboy but another junker i picked up
