I'm new to the FTE fourm. Does anyone have some good information on engine swaps?. I recently purchased a 1966 F100 2WD. It used to have a 352 2V, tri on tree now has a 351M tied to a C4 or C6 (not sure on trans) is this a good eng/trans combo for street/strip use?.
Hi and welcome
Have a couple of questions for you.
First, explain that handle. Have you gone 10 seconds or do you want to go ten seconds.
A little more about the truck. like is it a short bed or long bed.
You asked some pretty general questions.
Its gonna take a bit o' cash to go fast.
It's on my bucketlist, 10 sec is the goal, it's a longbed, some dents no rust for a MN truck cab floor and corners all in really good shape, I'm on a limited budget at present, would love to drop in a monster, new boss 429 or 527? not sure on that one, though at some time in the future
Wow, where to start.
First off, a Boss 429 is an extremely rare engine and is beyond the reach of mere mortals to own.
There is a gentleman named Jon Kaase that has manufactured his own Boss style heads that fit on a 460 block. I believe they start at about $11,000 for a long block.
The last time I checked a big inch Ford long block was about $7,000 to $10,000.
Thats just the beginning of the pile of money you will spend.
I don't want to bum you out but it's pretty crazy.
You have a great truck, why don't you start with getting the mechanicals all working nicely and getting it to drive well.
Thats what I hear, I'm nearly fifty no kids at home anymore that require $ attention so if it is nothing but time and money I guess it will be worth the effort btw turbohunter you gotta sweeeeeet 63 bird, i just hope someday my ride will get that close to niceness.
Hey turbohunter the truck is in fairly decent running order now. When i got it someone had already started the restoration. thanks for giving me somewhere to start.
Thank you
I'm 55 and very lucky.
You have discovered the best place on earth for those the love old trucks and cars of the Blue Oval.
How about taking some pictures of your truck and posting them.
We all love seeing what you have and its easier to give helpful comments if we can see it.
Thanks, I've been true blue since childhood gramps owned them, my pops also. I've had my fair share of Fords 71 Mach 1, 73 Mach 1, 65 Ford F250, 64 Galaxie 500 Custom, Now I only have 02 F150 4WD supercab, and the 66 F100, I will post pics when I get some taken. First gotta dig it out of the snow

First off, Welcome to FTE!
If you want to go 10's and have the engine stay together I would drop the 351M in the nearest trash bin. If the trans pan has 17 bolts its a C-6. Decent trans and that will bolt up to the 429/460 engine with probably just a converter change. (couple size snouts on the converters)
The Boss 9 sounds like a great start for a true 10 second driver but again the rest of drive train will have to be able to take the HP and the truck will need some serious traction. You will also need at least a 31 spline axle with a good center to hold the HP.
You could always go FE or the 385 series engines as mentioned above. For the HP to go 10's it will be cheaper to start with a 385 series engine.
Bolt on a set of Kaase P51's or the Boss version along with 10-10.5 comp and a good roller cam and good bottom end and you will almost be there. The hardest part will be trying to get it to hook up.
Boss9F100, Thanks for the info. I thought about a four link narrowed 9" Ford rearend with 4:56 gears, I also can get my hands on a 1978 motorhome I think that has ford running gear (460 with a 3 spd auto) which would be an easy swap I think. The total cost of about 2,000.00. Any suggestions?.
