Swap question

So the 302 automatic in my truck has 2 bad cylinders. I bought another engine that is extremely performance that was in a manual car. My question now is I don't know anything about the cam so how do I know if I need a stall convertor? My thinking is just get a new cam. Any ideas?

Need alot more info , what year and kind of truck , what you use it for , are both motors EFI ?.....Lew

the stall on the converter depends on the intended use. as for the cam, if the PO didn't inform you on the specs, good luck. also you say its in a car, so if its really high performance chances are it wants higher rpm which isn't really what you want with a truck.

The truck is an 84 non fuel injected. The engine is coming out of a 73 mustang. This is just going to be a street rod with no intentions of racing it. My trans guy said it shouldn't be a problem since I'm not racing it. He said the stall converters are mainly used when racing because of the power ranges of the cams. I guess I could always pull it back out and put a stall converter in there if its not right. Its all fun right?

Go for it then , the 302s never make alot down low any way , i think its better to use a more agressive cam in them , i would put a shift kit in the trans ....

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but the question I have is also about a swap. Will a 400(Cleveland) truck engine bolt into an 85 4x4 F-150? I have the 400C and am looking at the 85.

That would be a 400M (modified) , they came in the older trucks , not sure what you would need to bolt it in to an 85 ??
