Question on 312 Engine

I just purchased a 1958 Ford F100 with a '57 T-Bird 312 Engine. Looking at the engine on the drivers side up from the oil filter there is what looks like another type of filter with a pipe or type of exhaust comming out of it... When the engine is running oil can be seen dripping from it... What is this?? Also posted in 312 engine forum... Thanks!

Its a road draft tube, ventilates the crankase.
pre PCV era.

That makes sense....so do I continue to let it drip oil or is there a way to seal it and ventilate the crankcase my other means...i.e. Crankcase filter.....
