I have a 1995 F-150 5.0 (302) AODE. I am going to be replacing my worn out leaking fuel injectors soon. In Summit and Jegs they have Ford Racing injectors in 19, 24, and 30 pound injectors. The stock ones on my truck are 19. I was thinking about running 24. Will this cause eccessive gas consumption or poor drivability? It currently has K&N and Flowmaster exhaust. I am planning on adding a high flow mass air sensor, bigger throttle body, shorty headers, and a chip at some point down the road, hopefully fairly soon. Any input on this is greatly appreciated.
I think some 5.0s came with 24s, and I think the MAF system could handle them anyway. If you don't get any feedback here, check with the Mustang boards.
if you plan on installing a chip, I would change the injectors then. If you install the 24's, you will have to install a recalibrated maf or install a chip that reprograms for the 24's. The prefered way is to reprogram the comp. I know the cobra mustangs that were 5.0 with 24# injectors did the programing change in the comp. The mass air meter still had 19# parameters. If you don't do somthing you will have problems. the truck will run very rich. Good luck. Hope this helps. Hippie.
I asked the same question of Ford Motorsports and they told me NOT to run 24lb injectors in a non mass system, but that the 19lbs should work fine.
I installed the 19lbs several years ago and they work great and are comparable or better than stock and 1/2 the price to boot.
Be warned though that they are "not sold for use on pollution controlled vehicles"
I have been running 24# injectors in my 89 Bronco 5.0 for about six years now and have had no problems with them.
I had a nice rebuild done on the motor at that time that started with a mass air conversion kit from FMS. I don't know how much if any difference there would be between the 24# and a set of 19#
I was told at the time that it would only use the extra 5# if the TPS showed that the throttle was wide open or close to it. I don't know if that's right or wrong, but it was a very reputable shop that did the work for me.
At any rate, the truck runs great with an enormous amount of power for a little V8 in a (relatively) heavy truck. Since the injectors were part of the complete rebuild from a very tired stock engine to a fresh HO engine, I couldn't say if the 24 pounders were worth it or not.
