Question Power Steering Leak

I have a 1971 F-100 With a power steering leak. The fluid drips out of what seems to be a gearbox and onto the frame. When it no longer reads on the dipstick and appears empty I still have power steering, and after a long time passes then she starts to groan, then I fill it back up and watch it leak all over again. Is there an easy fix or am I looking at a major repair job? I've used Trans-X and it hasn't helped any. Any ideas? Thanks

Power Steering Leak

Kevin, It would be helpful to us, since we can't see it, if you can be specific about where it is leaking from. Clean the pump area with something like carb cleaner and see if it stays dry. You could be leaking at the hose connections, pump or at the gear.

Power Steering Leak

I also have a 71 f-100 and it leaks the same way. The leak is not from the power steerng unit, but from the gear box itself. I can't see exactly where the leak comes from, but can see it on the frame. There is some kind of gasket or something leaking on my gear box, so whenever I learn how to rebuild it, that is what I am going to do. Thanks.
