The newer Explorer SUV's have a 4' bed option.
I had problems renting U-Haul trailers with my F-150 cause it had Explorer on it. That was the time that the Explorer SUV was having tire and rolling issues, and their stupid lawyers did not know the difference. The stupid guy at the U-haul place said... "I don't have a listing for a 1981 Explorer..." That's because it's a F-150 with an explorer package, dunce... He would only rent the trailer if I took my name badges and hood ornament off. Well, you can probably guess what I said to that...

I thought of of another nickname that seems kinda catchy. The great 80's. Granted, the 80's lasted a bit longer than the nose did, but these were the best selling *vehicles* of the early 80's, not just the best selling trucks.......

"The Great 80s?"
It's too broad and generic. "The Great 80s" sounds like someone is talking about politics and referring to the Ronald Reagen era. It doesn't single out the 1980 -1986 F150 out enough. Besides, the re-styled 1987 - 1989 F150s were also a part of "The Great 80s" as well.
Why are you so against "Bullnose?" Because they are pretty much the same truck from the side, "nose" is the perfect theme for distinguishing the 1980 - 1996 trucks. When you look at the grille, or "nose" of the 1980 - 1986 truck, which is what distinguishes our generation from the 1987 - 1991 and the 1992 - 1996 models, don't you see the obvious resemblance to a bull?

No. I don't think it looks like a bull. Especially since there's no snot flinging out all over the place......
The "slick 60's" covers more years than the bodystyle lasted, yet it's perfectly fine............. Go figure.

Also, I am NOT alone in resisting having that nickname forced down my throat. Look up top, there is more than just 1 vote for no.
Perhaps I am one of the few who are resistant, and suggesting alternatives.
Wanna really get technical, the "60's" cover 60-69, yet the bodystyle reffered to as "Slick Sixties" only ran 61-66, and had WAY more changes during it's run, than the 80-86. Granted, it was replaced with a completely different body, but the underside remained almost unchanged between 66 and 67..... Heck, the frame wasn't changed from 65-79 much. Want disc brakes for a 65, use I-beams from a 73-79. Heck, there's even a few years where you can just swap out the spindles to get disc brakes, cause even the king pins were the same.

The "Slick 60s" trucks had a different grille almost every single model year, so they have to use a generic name. The 1980 -1986 trucks all had the same nose.
Alright Wulff, why don't you tell us what you think the 1980 - 1986 F150s look like from the front?

To me, from the front, they look like a rather great looking truck. Anyone disagree?

NO ONE is forcing a nickname down anyone's throat, Chief. That is why our moderator made a poll. 57 people think "Bullnose" fits out trucks well, and only 10 don't like it. You can't please everyone, but if you think you can do better than "Bullnose," then why don't you come up with a better name and make up your own poll and see if you get more votes.
It's still the same nose.
"Great?" Is that all you could come up with when I asked you what you think the front of the 1980 - 1986 F150s look like to you?

Ya can pick your freinds, and ya can pick your nose, but ya can't pick your freind's nose.
And, just for the record, it's 57 to 11, not 10.....
The poll clearly asks for a simple yes, or a no with suggestions for an alternative posted in THIS thread, so I'm tossing out a few alternatives.
And yes, the way you constantly call everyone "Chief" does irritate me (and many others I'm sure), which is why I tossed it back at ya. Unfortunately, sarcasm doesn't quite show up well in printed format, so I wanted to sure to point it out, just to be safe.
I'm not the typical "Sheeple" type that just follows whoever/whatever seems reasonable at the time. I think for myself, and if you read back thru the thread (and the previous nickname thread) you will see I have never really liked the silly nickname "Bullnose" and have tossed out several suggestions, in hopes of at least jumpstarting someone's creativity. I've thought of many different possibilities, unfortunately, I've forgotten most by the time I get back near a web-connected device, since most occur while I am driving down the highway, and I seem to have done a lot of that this past week.
I'd rather these trucks have no nickname at all versus getting labeled as a bull's nose.

How is that "fair?"
The poll was put in place to vote for a nickname for our forum. And so far, 84% has voted for "bullnose" to be the nickname.
Wulff, If you don't like the name that the vast majority of people in this forum do, then by all means vote. And, like the poll says, anyone can suggest whatever they name they choose. So far, none of your proposed names (Bullhead, The Great 80s, and Great) have garnered any interest. I just don't know why you insist on complaining about the name "bullnose" so much.

I've been suggesting that from the start.......
Didn't seem to work, so I've been doing everything to discourge the use of a bovine nostril.
Still doesn't seem to be working.......
Yes, I can be a real Richard Cranium when I wanna be.

Not everyone likes Bullnose. I respect the fact that some people like it. If you like it, then call your truck a Bullnose. There's no reason to make everyone here call it a Bullnose though.

I originally voted for Bullnose - but later thought perhaps the nickname might be better if was more self-depreciating. Like "Boxstyle, Bumpside, and Dentside" are kind of self-depreciating nicknames. "Bull" is kind of a tough, manly animal. Sounds like we are trying to sound tough.
Perhaps "Cownose" would be an equally descriptive nickname, yet be adequately humble-sounding. Furthermore, it is traditional to refer to ships and other vehicles as female, not male.
And maybe, just maybe, Rogue Wulff would find "Cownose" less offensive ...?
