Rear Brake Calipers 08 Super duty Single Rear wheel – May or may not be the same as listed for the dual wheel truck Last week I had periodic occurrences of my right rear brake caliper seizing up – which creates a lot of heat and is really tough on the fuel mileage. Of course this happened after 5pm on the night before I was to leave town pulling a 9,000 lb RV trailer 500 miles South. I called my Master Certified Auto Tech son – and he said – if you can get the parts and meet me at the shop at 6:30 I can get you in & out in short order. So I ended up at two different auto supply stores to get both the left & right rear calipers –– (I wasn’t going to do just one) and showed up at 6:30am. The Staff at the auto parts store were very helpful and we went through all the questions on their computer to make sure the parts were the right ones. Here’s what I learned – it can be dang hard to get those aluminum wheels off the steel drums – and that not all calipers listed for an 08 F250 super duty 6.4L diesel with single rear wheels are the same – some trucks have a caliper with a larger diameter mounting bolt and hole – It turns out that mine required the same caliper that is listed for a dual rear wheel truck. So after all my best efforts I had to have my son get the "right" calipers and delay my departure time. So why should I be replacing calipers with only 36,000 miles on a Super duty truck? – Anybody else have caliper issues? front or rear ? or anti lock brake issues?
I have been on here for about 6 months since I bought my first diesel and I have not seen to many post about brake problems. Radiator problems yes LOL. Thanks for the heads up on the calipers. I try to do most of my own maintenance that I can do and it sucks having to go back and forth because the parts are not what you need!
I take it your son got them on ok and all is well so far.
I had an issue on my 06 srw with 40k and my brother inlaw had the same issue with his rears on his 06 250.....both needed replacing....around 40k also..

Your Key Word is BEFORE! My wife and I drove my '08 down to North Carolina for a Technical Training Course for my job in January. My truck had just over 50K on it... on the last leg of the trip, I noticed a faint chirping or squealing noise coming from the rear of the truck. I stopped several times and looked around but could find nothing wrong. Once in NC, I went to a car wash to clean off some of the winter road grime from the trip and I notice that my left rear wheel was tinted brown... like it was covered with a brown film. It would not wash off - I kept an eye on it but it never seemed hot after a drive???
On the second Monday of the course, I was leaving the training center with one of my classmates in the truck. When I got to the exit of the parking lot, I stepped on the brakes and the pedal went slowly to the floor. I pumped it a little and it seemed to come back but once at the hotel, it again went to the floor. I got out and could see a nice puddle of brake fluid running out from under the left rear wheel. I looked underneath and you could see that the Caliper seal had ruptured! I called AAA and they sent a ramp truck to haul it to the local Ford Dealer for me. It took three days but the fixed it - rotor, caliper and pads! The caliper was sticking and wiper out the rotor and pads too. Oh well...
