gauges

I recently went to a co workers house to find parts. While I was looking I found the gauges out of a 77 f250 that had the amp and oil pressure gauge included with the rest of the gauges. Mine on the 73 just has the amp and oil dummy light. I grabbed them anyways but, the gauges I grabbed has a bigger wire harness. Anyone know the color of wires that are for the oil and the ones for the alt. I probably need to buy a sending unit or something at the parts store don't I? Anyone that's done this swap please let me know. I like the idea of the factory look, I want to do away with the aftermarket oil and alt gauge I have now and keep it stock looking.

You'll need the wiring harness from the donor vehicle. The wiring out to the alternator is different for a truck with gauges, because there's a shunt in parallel with the main power feed that feeds the ammeter. The connections to the regulator are different too. And yes, you'd need the oil pressure gauge sending unit as opposed to the dummy light switch.

Thanks I will grab that harness off the parts truck. Sounds like some work but, it will be worth it.
