Yeah gas prices are high but when I'm going to school and back a full tank will last me about a month.

Great story! Thanks for sharing forddude! I know how you feel. It's not a Ford but I've got a Rambler American that's been in my fam since new and my kids are 5th generation to ride in it! Keep that old tin alive!

I know I am a little late to congratulate you, but congrats on the truck. I hope it still has the 3 on the tree. I love mine. I tell my wife all the time that no one can steal my truck, anyone who would steal it can't drive it.

i have a question that im hopeing someone will be able to answer. i did some research to find out what kind of paint was used on these trucks and i read that they used baked enamel. i was reading some other stuff that was posted back in 2003, so can you still get this kind of paint in california? if so does anyone know of a good place that would do it? any help is appreciated.

Well, i have an "update" if thats what you want to call it. We bought a 68 fairlane about a week ago so that i would have something to drive to school while the truck is getting a new engine and rebuilt transmission in it. The fairlane needs a master cylinder and brake booster before it can be driven. I'm really glad we got this car though because last friday night, i was on my way home from a friends house in the truck, and it started acting like it was out of gas. It was spitting and sputtering at low rpms then it stalled at a stop sign. We got it to the gas station and it only took 10 gallons, so it wasnt empty. At idle it didnt want to run at all and it sounded like a tractor except when you reved it up it was fine. So we got it home and the next day, we tested the battery, filed the points, checked all the spark plug wires, changed the spark plugs, and it still wasn't wanting to idle. So we did a compression test and every cylinder was no less than 120 PSI. We soaked the carburator in carb. cleaner and adjusted it. by the end it was really smooth, and ran better than before, of course it had been warmed up by then. So then this morning (monday) I was on my way to school and it stalled and wouldnt start at all, then it got flooded, and i had to get t school so my mom came and took me the rest of the way. My dad went up and it started for him, so he adjusted the idle and timeing a little. He said he drove it accross town and on the freeway and everything seemed pretty good so they dropped it off at my school so i could drive home. I went out after to leave and it was cooled by then and it took two tries to start it (it usually starts faster than most new cars). Once it was warm it was fine. i got home and waited about 3 hours and tried to start it agian, and agian two tries and i had to step on the gas, and once it was started i had to keep reving it so it would stay running. I know something isnt right cause i have parked it for 6 hours, gone out, not even touched the choke and it fires right up. It always does just fine for my dad, so i dont know what could be wrong! On top of that, i have two weeks at the least before the other car is ready.

Sounds like it could be ''Vapor lock''? or the choke not comin off soon enough? do you smell gas? or it could be a clogged fuel filter?
good luck snd welcome back!!PS, could be bad gas? water in the fuel?

Carb

When I rebuilt my carburetor, well, the first time I rebuilt it, the darn thing wouldn't start too well and seemed to flood easily after all of the pumping of the pedal and choking...
I found that if I pumped the gas once and then held the peddle to the floor, it started right up.
So that means that the carb was gunked up on the idle circuit? Whatever.
Well after soaking and reassembling everything works Okay, I have a manual choke so that eliminates some of the troubleshooting.
One pump and hold it to the wood!
Good luck. T.

This one has manual choke too. Today was better. I pumped the gas twice pulled the choke out and it started just like normal, but i let it get up to almost operating temp, before attempting to move it, just until i get a little more confident.

Cold blooded

My old 352 is pretty cold blooded too, if you can, even when it's warm weather, give it maybe 30 seconds after starting before you take off. It takes a while to get that manual choke down to where you know where it should be.
Have fun!
