Hello everyone. Been lurking for a long while and finally feel a need to post a question.
I have a 6.7 diesel extcab longbed 4wd with the 3.31 rearend. I have been experiencing a surge primarily told by the boost guage when using the cruise control unloaded and either or both going up a steady climb in elevation or headwind. It does not surge if I shift down to 5th. Does not occure pulling a load. Still occures in manual mode and tow-haul mode. Does not occure if your controlling throttle with your foot. I find that it happens at speed of 65-70. It will boost to about 10 pounds then fall to about 3 and will continue this until maybe a hill or change in direction. It does not occure with a tail wind. I took it to the dealer today and ford had a new flash for the pcm and the tcm. Hoping that this would fix it but I dont believe it did. Anybody else experience this?
Yes.. i noticed mine doing the same thing the other day..i am starting to lose my confidence in this new truck..700 miles..tranny issues and now this...what is next? I smell lemon...I was going to sell my old 90 f250...now i'm not sure if i should..i trust it more than this new truck..
i started noticing the same issue while in los angles. but i noticed it at lower speeds like between 30 and 55 and on a slight incline. i will be going to ford in a couple of days to have it checked out. i have the f-350 cc, kr, 4x4, long bed, dually, 373 gears. just shy of 10k miles.
Thanks for everyones responses. I was thinking it might have something to do with my gear selection of 3.31 but, I see trucks that have 3.55 gears are also showing this symptom.
Okie, does this happen only when in regen?
Mine has a slight surge from time to time when in regen with cruse control enabled.
However, I hear it in the engine (RPM change) more than I feel it so it isn't a big deal and wouldn't have considered it an issue; actually I still don't.
Mine does the same thing. I'll have my cruise set on 70mph, and when going down a slight decline on my work route, the boost gauge will surge between 10psi and 0. Just a quick surge back and forth. But once the road levels out, then everything will be normal. I'll try to record a video of this happening. Its like the cruise can not make up its mind on what to do? Also, while your in cruise, hold down the "-" and see what your truck does. Mine acts like the engine brake is engaging even when not in tow haul.
guys there is an ssm about this from the same thing and it dates back to the 6.0. for some reason they like to surge. its not abnormal and not unheard of.

I dont understand how two totally different motors can exhibit the same problems? Same control systems?

same basic operation. it goes back to ebp/vgt/mfds/map. the 6.4 also has the same issue.
the pcm is trying to make the engine make it happy and it continues to recorrect itself. just the way it is with fly by speed controll. no servo its like I said all pcm commanded.
