HELP!!! Front end clunk, Radius arm bracket?
Hey, so i've recently purchased a 1988 f150 that i've repainted and gone over and almost rebuilt, i did the radius arm bushing awhile back and now i'm starting to get the same clunking sound underneath the truck, i've check the bushing its still good, but today i pulled the bushing off and noticed about an 1/8" space between the top of the bushing and the bracket could this be causing my "clunk" sound? does anybody have any suggestions? i've done the shocks, tie rods, wheel bearings, ball joint were done before i bought it, and the pivot arm bushing are intact as far as i can tell.

This topic gets covered all the time. Do a search! A search of the word "clunk" comes up with about 700 threads in the 87-96 ford truck forum.
A pop, clunk, or banging noise can be caused by many things... the important thing is to take note of when the noise occurs... when braking, turning, accelerating, going over bumps, driving over uneven ground(frame twist) ect...
I would suggest checking all the normal things like ball joints, tie-rods, brake calipers, radius-arm bushings, shock bolts/bushings, spring -eye bushings, body mounts, ect... taking into account the specific situation that causes the noise and figuring on how that situation effects that specific part. If all of that checks out then the next thing to check (and very common in our trucks) is loose or tweaked engine or transmission cross-member.
there is or was a TSB from ford that covered the frame/cross-member problem and had the procedure to fix it. I used to have a link to it but it seems to not work any more. If I remember correctly the engine cross-member got a couple of the rivets replaced... transmission cross-members had the bolts loosened and re-torqued.
hope that helps

I know this was caused by a issue different to mine, but my 1990 has a Clunk when I turn to the right. and the wheels sit /-/ \-\ I'm thinking Tie-rod ends for one thing. it only does this when turning to the right and bumps won't cause it
heres a link to my photobucket album of my front end theres too many pictures to post them all in this thread lol
