I have a 2004 F250 Lariat Diesel with 92,000 pampered miles. Today it started blowing blue smoke randomly while driving home from Mobile. The truck runs perfect, does not idle funny and no engine lights are on?? It blow at usually under 2500 rpm, none that i could see when you get down on the pedal hard/ Can anyone give me some input? Thanks so much
why would i need a head gasket? Truck has never been hot, never pulled anything to be worked hard. I would certainly hope this "so called" great motor would not need at head gasket at 92000 miles, I have a mercedes diesel with 346000 miles that has never been touched!!
Haha well any ideas on what the deal with the blue smoke? It may not be the best motor ford has ever made but i certainly hope at 92000 miles and running good, there should be a reason for the blue smoke!
but would the truck not run funny or check engine light be on? Starts perfect, idles perfect. Im very confused, seems the truck should be running different if it had that major of a problem?
A blown head gasket on a diesel usually doesn't cause blue smoke. Blue smoke is usually oil burning and the high cylinder pressures of a diesel usually push stuff out of the cylinders, not allow stuff in them. Head gaskets usually case high pressure in the cooling system, often causing coolant to "puke" out of the reservoir cap.
A common cause of oil burning is a blown turbocharger seal, allowing oil into the exhaust.
Thanks for the reply!! Is this an extremely costly fix if it is the turbo charger seal? What about the EGR valve? Could that also cause it to smoke? Thanks so much
