Trying to get back started

Hi Everyone I am new here. I have a 1971 Ranger XLT that I started a frame off restoreation on about 15-20 years ago and due to some set backs I had lost intrest. I have all the body and paint work done on the cab and front clip. I have the frame all done were I took my 3/4 ton axles off and replaced with 1/2 ton axles and added disk brakes to the front. The question I have is an opion question. This truck was a 360 I have some of the parts to build a 390 hi pro for it but now with gas going up I am throwing around the idea of putting a 302 in instaid. Would this be a good move? Im just going to use this truck for a Sunday cruiser really and dont need the big power. What are you opinions on this? If I got the frame purches for the engine and transmition mount a 302 should just drope in right? Thanks Paul

I have put a 302 in a 71 without doing anything to the frame purches my problem is with the oil pan got a stock replacment from mildon and it did not fit so still trying to solve the issue but I never had an oil pan to start with and didn't know where to start. tried front sump now going to try rear. As far as power goes the 302 should be just fine I put a lot of work in mine but have never started yet so not sure how it will run but should be fine for cruising
