Holy Smokes it's Julys chat and BS thread

Well here we are again and time for another month to start up. You all do know that July is the seventh month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars and the fourth of seven months to have a length of 31 days. It was named by the Roman Senate in honour of Roman general Julius Caesar, it being the month of his birth, on the 12th of July. Prior to that, it was called Quintilis, being the fifth month of the 10-month calendar until January and February were added in 450 BC.

"Dog days" are considered to begin in early July in the Northern Hemisphere, when the hot sultry weather of summer usually starts. Spring lambs born in late winter or early spring are usually sold before 1 July. It is sometimes called the Hay month because the grass dries out due to a lack of rain and can be made into hay.

July symbols

July 1, 1862 - President Abraham Lincoln signed the first income tax bill, levying a 3% income tax on annual incomes of $600-$10,000 and a 5% tax on incomes over $10,000. Also on this day, the Bureau of Internal Revenue was established by an Act of Congress.

July 1, 1863 - Beginning of the Battle of Gettysburg during the American Civil War.

The Buck Moon
July’s full Moon, the full Buck Moon, occurs on Friday, June 23. It reaches peak illumination at 10:37 P.M. (EDT) that evening, rising above the horizon just after sunset.

FOLKLORE FOR THE SEASON
  • Ne’er trust a July sky.
  • If ant hills are high in July, the coming winter will be hard.
  • As July, so next January.
  • No tempest, good July,
    Lest the corn look ruely.
  • Whatever July and August do not boil,
    September can not fry.

I got another bumper built today. I didn't have any of the pieces prepped, so I had to start from scratch. Tomorrow I need to get cracking on the cracked floor in the hauler and if EQ gets wet, so be it. I have to get this thing fixed.

I thought it needed a redneck car wash any way from the dusty course you was on a while back.

Bronco seems to be getting better p/s wise. Setting over night seemed to help, get some of the mystery air out of the system. I am getting a new belt tomorrow and ordered a 7.5 long bolt that is 3/8 threaded on one end and 7/16 on the other end, to use as a stiffening rod between the block and the single mount bracket.

Good Morning Everybody!

Rich. I actually went through the trouble to wash it after Miami. He's looking pretty spiffy. I even touched up the paint on the chassis.

good morning missouri.. glad to hear the p/s got better from sitting.. a few more times of circulating the fluid and moving trapped air and it will be good.. well at least we can hope for it to fix itself.... easier than drilling holes to remove any 'trapped air' for sure...

raining here this morning also.. puts a damper on my plan for this morning.. i have the parts made to adapt the 67 differential to the 84 f250.. now i have to dissemble it all again lower the diffential so i can drill 4 holes in the original spring saddles, then reassemble...... then maybe i can use the truck to go down the road again.....

Good morning and happy July all.
Rich, thank you for the tidbits of information.
Now to head out and irritate customers, need to hit the WalMarts for a bunch of sweets for one customer, vendors cannot bring in food, if it is in a nondescript box and doesn't smell, it isn't food.

Insulation contractor was out yesterday to get me an estimate on spray foaming all my exterior walls without disassembling the walls.
Garage door guy will be called in a few to come out an reseal the garage doors, or an estimate to replace them. This is going to be a year of no big car purchases or builds, just fix what I have and get the house in tip top shape. Next year might be different.
Have a great day all!

When will this rain ever stop? I'm with Rich, I'll be string trimming prior to mowing if I don't catch a break soon.

I can't even fix a loose wiper arm without getting rained on. The sun is out, I rush outside and pop the hood on the tractor, I climb up on the truck and TOUCH the wrench to the arm and I get bucketed on. I'm getting sick of this!

That is the issue with big vehicles, you need a big garage. Hang in there.

Good thing you are not made of sugar (you would melt) or that other stuff that floats in water. Wet weather gear and go.

Nice and sunny here, unless I step off the poarch.......... it starts raining. And I might float away.

19 times, not including gfci protected circuits. Spas are dangerous to work on. Water and electricity in one convenient location, and you can't test it with the power off. I'm usually squatting/kneeling/sitting in a puddle. And they are often wired by unqualified people. I have had breakers turned on by owners while I was working on them, hot wires connected to ground lugs, ungrounded spas, even took over 600 volts off of a hi-pot tester (high potentiometer). That one hurt to breath for a week after.
Still kickin'.
