'94 chateau van

I'm about to but a '94 Chateau wagon, unless I hear shouts of NO!!!
It has the 351 in it, and 250,000km (it's a Canadian thing), that's 157,000 miles. They want $8,000. It's in great shape a apparently well maintained.

My question is: "what can I expect from this 351 engine?"

My experience is only with the old 390cc's that typically gave about 200,000 miles.

I guess a follow-up would be "are these vans alot more expensive to work on?" Very crammed in there under the hood.

Thanks for any advise.

I can't advise whether it's a food deal or not, as Canadian values may make a difference. I have a '94 E-150-6 cyl.

It's a little bit more of a PITA to work on the engine. You almost always have to take the engine cover off from inside the van. It can be a hassle, 'cause there isn't much room to get it out. All the air cleaner and junk they have mounted under the hood is in the way to do much under there, except check the air cleaner element.

I have the same van I got mine 7500$ 61000 on the OD. That price seems a bit high for that many miles. As with all ford vans check the front end good make sure it has grease fittings on the ball joints Also check to see if the horn air bag and cruise work if any dont the clock spring is bad. Also check the oil pan for rust.Ive had mine for awhile and it runs great .Flash 5500$ in his face and see if he deals.

Well I bought it. It has automatic locks, so it's currently warming
up with my only set of keys in the ignition and some how the doors are all locked! Ah, the joys of new car ownership.
The former owner is coming to my rescue with the extra set of keys.

Thanks for the tips/help I'm looking forward to years of good use with this vehicle.

My mechanic gave it a thumbs up -- a few relativley minor repairs needed, but basically solid. Yes, the oil pan needs some rust stop.

I'll probably have a few more questions in the coming days -- off to get studded tired now...........
