just saying hi i guess, new to the IDI world. picked up and '84 f250 6.9l, t19 with 123k or so on it a while ago and been spending the 2-3 months or so gathering as much info as possible. i'm guessing the trucks in pretty good shape considering no smoke(only see a haze in the rearview with headlights behind me), mileage has been holding steady at 18.5-20.5, so i'm assumeing timing, injectors, and IP are in good shape. just looking for some ideas to get some more power out of it. planning a 3-4 in exhaust this summer, turbo's out right now cause of lack of funds. just wondering what can be done to an NA IDI,thanks.
Looks like you got a great truck. I wish I got that kind of mileage...
Opening up the exhaust & intake is the first things to do. Cowl induction seems to be a great improvement for the intake.
IP timing might be another, but it sounds like it's doing pretty well right now...
yeah thats what i thought standerd gasser stuff. and yeah so far i'm really glad i picked this thing up. been driving nothing but fords always ran a 300 inline so far i'm liking the IDI just gotta figure what i wanna do with it first
3.55's, 2wd, 235 75 r16 tires, 60 PSI, and driving like someone twice my age. last 2 tank fulls have been 14.5-16.5 gallons at 300 miles give or take, speedo's pretty accurate as far as i can tell
Regarding the intake and exhaust, treat it like a gasser. But keep in mind that diesels don't require backpressure. So open that puppy up as much as you want!
Wreckinball had an awesome setup when he was pre-turbo. You'll find his signature has links to his write-up threads.
Your truck seems to be dialed in very well.
If you're really looking to build a serious N/A motor, then ditch that exhaust Y-pipe for some true duals. 2-1/4" to 2-1/2" reducers and then a 2-1/2" to 3" reducer and run 3" pipes. Or another 3-4" reducer and run 4" pipes...
Build an awesome air intake that can grab as much air as possible. You can get creative and try to cut some of the radiator support away and find a way to duct the fresh air up to the air cleaner.
Get a pyrometer. Drill and tap the exhaust manifold right near the rear-most cylinder on either side of the engine.
You can turn the fuel up some after the pyro is set up.
Once you get those mods done, they ought to make you smile!
The good thing is that if you do install a turbo, the pyro will already be there for your EGT gauge.
And if you turbo the truck, you'll be able to re-use some of the exhaust once you adapt/mate up with the downpipe...
yeah bro welcome and here ya go, its a dual 3" off the headers into a y pipe 3"in/3"out made by magnaflow and from the y pipe, goes into single 4" exhaust with a magnaflow 4" straight through race style muffler. Takes the edge off. pics located here and in my albums. You can see the NA setup clearly in that page but have a look around. My vids are located on youtube for sound and power demos, just look up "thechiefwhit". Let me know if ya have any questions, i am turbo now but still have all the pieces, which you wont want lol. they are hacked up for parts lol.
Wreck, my 85 is staying N/A...but it won't be a stock N/A I've been reading your threads to give myself a plan of attack.
The '65 is gonna get turbo'd though
hey guys thanks for the tips. i figured NA mods would be basically the same as modding a gasser, did alot of that trying to squeeze all i could out of my 300's. still gotta play catch up with changing out fluids and filters, then its on to rebuilding the LS and maybe converting to duals

Give us some more specs on this truck, there are some members here who have gone to duals....and then there's me...who swapped from duals to singles
yep, get er done! its all for fun, love this truck. Just picked up another round bale today and smoked a triton f150 with the roundbale in the back, he was floored lol. scary part was that i rocked the roundbale back and it nearly came out the back hahaha. Ricer behind me was ****ting his pants! lmao.

Yeah, I guess these old IDI's are just gutless huh?
