Towing Hitch Height

I'm about to tow my boat for the first time with the new truck.

I was told that the hitch should be 18" off the ground to the top of the ball.

Is this correct? And if so, is that loaded or unloaded?

Optimum hitch height is dependent on the trailer. The trailer should be relatively level when hitched and normally loaded.

You can set the trailer with the jack so the frame is parallel to the ground and measure the height of the ball pocket. Add a little height (maybe an inch) if you expect your truck to squat much.
