How is the 12v hot pin on the 7pin connector connected to the battery on the trailer? Does the trailer have its own battery charger or is it directly connected to the battery.
The reason i asked this is because i wanted to use the 12v hot pin to charge my boat troling motor batteries while i am heading to the lake. This would be just incase i did not have enough time to fully recharge the batteries.
A travel trailers inverter is connected to a 12V distribution panel and one of those circuits leads to/from the battery. When the trailers 120V power line is plugged in, the battery is being charged. When external power is turned off, the same line powers the 12V distribution panel.
The hot pin in the 7 pin connector goes to the battery through a fuse. It is only hot when the ignition switch is in the on or run position. You could wire this to terminal block in a waterproof box near the tongue of the boat trailer and keep all your temp connections inside.
The trailer battery power wasn't switched (by a relay) until '92. In '90-91, is was always hot thru a fusible link. Before that, there was no factory circuit for trailer power - just lights & brake.

What year is your truck? Basically, your idea will work, and that's what that circuit is there for.

2001 f150 supercrew is what usually tows the boat. I also have a 93 explorer that i sometimes use to tow it. The f150 already has a seven pin connector, i would have to install on it the explorer to make it work with it.
