Well, here I am again with another in a long line of stupid questions.
I did a "tune up" on my truck this weekend, plugs, boots, PCV, etc. Everything went fine and the truck seemed to run OK after the tune.
On the way to work this morning it didn't sound quite right. It seemed to be missing a beat at idle. At highway speed it seemed good but still had a surge or a "miss" at idle and in the lower RPM range when starting out. Well, the SES light came on, it came up with a P0307 code, missfire on #7. I'm heading out now to recheck my connections (although I can't see how they could go wrong), should I put a meter on the COP or just figure it's bad and replace it?
You can try swapping #7 COP with another one (say #6?) and see if you get the misfire on #6 now. That way, you'll know it's the COP. If it's still #7, then there is something going on there at #7 and it's not the COP.
Swapped the #6&7 COP's, no codes. Looks like it was good ol' fashioned user error, I must have not put 7 back in all the way.
It still has a bit of a "pop" or something when it idles, but it runs fine on the road. Guess I need to go after the IAC next. (part of the neverending list) =)
