The rocker that midfifty sent me for my 53 is a 56 stamping. How can I make this work? Do any other vendors have the 53-55 style rocker without the indent for the 56 reinforcement? NPD lists theirs as 53-56 and couldn't tell me which stamping it was. When I ordered the one I have midfifty said they didn't have any and didn't know when or if they would be available.
If you are going to use it I would cut it where it starts to get smaller, then take the piece you cut off split it an add a filler piece in the center to make it wider. It appears that from the picture the center section is the part that gets smaller. That way you don't have to fab the parts with the bends in it.
Rocker panels for my '53 came from Dennis Carpenter, in 1993, and they fit perfectly. If they are still using the same dies, you should be in good shape.
According to my invoice, the '53-'56 Part number was BAAA-8110110-PR for the pair.
You can use the one without the indent on both however, the one with the indent will have to modified. Midfifty mentions that in their catalog I don't have it handy so I can't be 100% sure though.
I took extra metal from my rear cab corner intall and bent the end of the rocker by hand. I used vice grips and clamped it to the back of my truck frame rail. Most of the curves are not "tight" so you can get away with bending by hand and for the tight curves you can hammer the edges if necessary. It maybe easier to just bend a new end. It took me about 30 mins to do that piece and I am in no way near as tallented as most of the guys on this site.
I was going to put a pic in this response but can't figure out how to do it from my car domain page so see link below.
