Ok i have a 93 f250 4x4 7.3 idi with a E40D trans (rebuilt about 35,000 miles ago). My problem is when i shift into reverse 2or 3 sec after i do so it shifts really hard into reverse n make a clunk sound. It does it very slightly when i put it in drive. The trans also sqeels when i give it gas in reverse but not in drive, but when i driving my truck takes a long time to shift between 2nd 3rd n 4th gears unless i let off the gas for a sec. There is a little extra fuild in the trans also, would a flush filter n the rite amont of fluid stop all this or am i look at buying a new trans thx for all ur help
Ok i did some investion today n found out its not my trany that is chunking when i put it in reverse its my rear driveshaft turning bout a quarter turn before it pressure on the rearend gears
the welded rear end would not have any effect on shift timing, a little hard on axle shafts though. If all the shifts are late and harsh, look to the throttle position sensor. Sometimes called a FIPL switch(fuel injection pump lever). There is a procedure to set it through a scan tool but if your shifts are late, retard its position a little bit and go drive it. Make little minor adjustments until its right.
Yes there is, if it has an E4OD that is. Look along the left hand inner fender. It will be a OBD1 ford connector. I would just slow down the TPS switch though, that's the easiest.
Nope no obd1 connecter all there is a eec test connecter on the driver side i even asked advance to scan it the other day they said that it has to be a 94 n up. I didnt believe them so me and a friend took 2 hours looking for one n no luck we looked under the dash n all inside the engine bay
