I live on the Florida panhandle and took delivery of my truck in December 2010.. I didn't turn on the A/C until recently when the weather warmed up.. When I did, the system acted as though it had no freon.. I brought it in for service and sure enough, no freon.. Picked up the truck two days later with cold A/C.. Turned on the system the very next day and the problem had returned.. Trip two to the local Ford dealer uncovered a leaking evaporator core. No parts on hand so they emergency ordered the part.. Just under a week later, the part came in and is now installed.. However, the mechanic discovered a burned electrical terminal connected to the rapid heat system. Still waiting on the part.. Frustration at this point is understated!! I will say that the service tech at the dealer is doing a great job in communicating and assures me that his best man is on the job.. I've got faith in the service department but my confidence in my new $60,000 truck is fading fast.. My question is "Has anyone else experienced this problem or a similar one??"

Reason: misspelled words
This is the first report I've seen of a similar issue. Glad it's getting fixed.
Have faith... one bad component is not the end of the world. There are hundreds of thousands of these things on the road. A few are bound to have issues. The good news is that issues are rare and Ford is working very hard to correct the ones that do arise. A bad evaporator certainly isn't fun to deal with, but it doesn't mean that you're going to have more issues.
Update: I stopped at the dealership to check on my truck.. The rapid heat assembly is installed and the mechanic is putting Ole Girl back together.. There's hope!! I was able to look at the burned terminal on the old unit.. I don't understand how a brand new unit would burn up like that but I hope this was a one time fluke.. I'm concerned about a repeat failure because I'm told this was the first year with this option.. Does Ford have the kinks worked out of this system?? I guess we'll see.. I also got to view the failed evaporator core and it appears that weak welding may have caused the leak.. Again, I guess we'll see.. Gotta say that seeing the entire front half of my interior removed was gut-wrenching but I suppose that is the cost of surgery.. On a side note, my Chevy and Dodge owning buddies sure are having fun busting my chops when I pull up in my rented Chevy pick-up with cold A/C..
Update: I've had my truck back for a week now and so far, so good.. Considering the degree of disassembly that Ole Girl had to endure, I expected to hear squeaks and rattle in the dash and see scratches in the interior but to my surprise, my truck looks and sounds good as new.. They even gave it a detail before handing it back to me.. Oh, and the A/C will freeze me out on low.. I'm truly impressed with the service tech and the mechanic at the local dealership.. To top it all off, Ford called me a few days ago and compensated me with a three year/45K mile maintenance package.. Wow!! I didn't expect that but it certainly is appreciated!!
I have just under 1,000 Miles on this new truck and the AC went out. I am told they have to replace the evaporator core so the first thing in my new truck is they have to yank the dash? Really? Ugh. I am beginning to already regret this purchase...
I understand your frustration.. For what it's worth, my A/C has worked perfectly since the core replacement.. I now have over 15k miles and no other problems.. I wish you luck!!
Thanks for sharing. I visited my new vehicle today. As I looked in sheer horror at the empty shell of a truck, and having not made a payment yet, a sense of panic and doom filled my thoughts..... I appreciate the kind words. I'll post photo's for others to see.

I view your photos with great interest, in that the servicing tech opted to remove both front seats. I have only had to do ONE so far, myself. Given that FoMoCo only pays us techs about 5.6 hours labour if I recall correctly, this job is NOT a money maker for the poor tech that gets stuck doing it. I believe I still have a couple photos of the one time I attacked one of these in my archives.
I believe that my compressor and or clutch just exploded. Smoke from the area and a rattling noise. Could this be related to the evaporator core being replaced? 50K miles and I am not looking forward to this hassle or expense.
