today i was messing around in some mud and had to lock the hubs, it was acting like it wasnt working, there is a grinding noise coming from the right side when i got out (helped by a CHEVY! ) i went home and took it apart and is the dog thing/ the thing that has the splines on it supposed to move back and forth because it had about a 1/4 of in out motion. PLEASE HELP ASAP i need it tomorrow thanks

Yes, it's normal to have a little bit of play back and forth. Sounds like the bearings and/or races are shot, or could be the lockout mechanism that's shot as well. They're not too terribly difficult to work on, and I got new WARN lockouts at NAPA, works like a dream now.
looked at NAPA.com, and didnt' see any that were over 20 dollars. probably have to pull of the hubs and take them in somewhere to have the old bearings pressed out and new ones pressed in, unless you can do it yourself.
I love the Moreys red grease. Been using it for about 5 years and have had no issues with it. Last time I changed bearings and brakes on my 76 Ford I think it was around $100 with pads, rotors bearings and seals. So for just bearings probably around $25 a side.
thanks, last night i took apart the hub and put it back together and this morning i went for a test drive and now it isnt grinding so it must only happen when i try and lock them
