My Daughters 76 F-100 4x4-360 engine has a few major problems.I have a chance to pick up a free 390 out of a 68 F-100 that has been wrecked and only 5000 miles on new rebuilt engine.I personally know the owner of the wrecked truck and when it was rebuilt. My question is,are there any external differences in between those years of 390-360 engines that would cause any problems with a swap such as bolt holes for accessories, intake differences etc?Would the smog on the 76 360 be a problem to swap over to the 68 390?Thanks for any help.Did a forum search but not enough specific information, thanks again.
What smog equipment do you have? You may have to bring the manifold and maybe heads over from the old engine. The later engine will have hardened valve seats, but the '68 won't.
An eyeball test should tell you about accessories, pulleys, bolt holes in the heads, etc.
