I have a leak from my shifter bushing or seal. I guess I should ask is it
concidered a bushing or seal? Can it be removed and replaced without
needing in special tools? I know I need to drop the pan and remove the
valve body, that's not a problem. Can I get the shaft out easy enough
to replace the leaking part?
It's been a while since I did a rebuild, but I want to say that you can even probably do this without dropping the VB.... I think it is a seal, you should also be able to find a C6 schematic online someplace.

Yes its easy to do & probably lower the VB because you have to take the kick down lever
out from inside, there is a lip seal in the case & an o-ring on the small shaft.
When you loosen the 1/2 '' nut hold the lever so you dont bend the inside part.
Dont over tighten the nuts, they will break or strip.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Sounds like this is something I can handle
then as long as I can locate a replacement part without having to purchase a whole transmission kit. Off hunting!
Thanks Gigger, I had the same thought about a transmission shop until I
just happen to find one listed at Oreilly's for $7.49. Guess I will find out
who's cheaper.
All this being said, does anyone know what a total rebuild of a C-6 for my 1969 F-100 should run? I have been reading about new Kevlar belts and other cool stuff. I am just beginning to plan my restomod and will have a totally new engine. I'd like to hook her up with a better than new tranny. I've been saving my pennies for months now. I hope I can afford this.
Hey Pink, if you shop around you can get a C6 built for around $800 to $1000. then more depending what all you want in there. New torque and HD band & clutches & shift kit..........
Thanks Gigger. I'm just starting to plug some numbers into my resto plan. Man, it adds up fast. I'm already approaching the 20K mark. Still, it'll be better than financing a new one.
Well Pink this way by the time your done you will have a truck exactly the way you want it and not have to have a degree in order to work on it. I am a huge fan of keeping the older trucks on the road spanking a rice burner when one trys to act tough. I cringe a little when i fill up but i also know that if something goes wrong, i can either order the parts or ask on here and get all the info i need.
