Has anyone found or bought a replacement windshield for your 73-79 truck that is clear, i.e. no greenish blue tint along the top side of the windshield??
IIRC, the OEM glass was clear for 1978 can anyone verify this?
I'm in central Iowa and I have called numerous automotive glass shops and all they can come up with is the tinted versions. ugh...
Same thing for the rear glass (no slider, just solid glass). I'm interested in a clear window here too. These pieces are for my '78 F250 Crewcab.
Anyone have any luck getting a clear windshield? Would be nice if it was in central iowa! lol
My '78 has a clear windshield and clear rear window. I too am looking for a rear slider for mine as well. The glass shops around here have quoted me for a clear front glass, and either a clear or tinted rear slider...
Just curious, what did the shop quote you for the front glass installed??
I called Safelite a couple 6 months back...I want to say it was around $165-$185ish...installed and the old one disposed of...
I also have talked to our local trade school automotive department. He told me he could get glass for next to nothing through the school...
I am currently trying to work with them to get my truck painted...I took it over for them to take a look at, and I thought I was going to have to beat him down with a stick...he was drooling over it, and was chomping at the bits to get his hands on it...(they just don't have time currently)...he quoted me $1000.00 to sand, do some body work, prime, paint, clear coat (a couple layers), new glass in front and back, spray in bed liner, as well as a donation to the school...I call him every other week to keep check with him...
Just another thought...if you have a local trade school, they may be able to get their hands on some for a really good price...then a small donation, and they could probably install it as well...
Never thought of the trade school route. We do have a community college with an automotive department. Might be worth a look. Thanks for the info man, just got my dent yesterday and still making the list of things to do. Unfortunately I can't do much but acquire parts right now since I'm recovering from back surgery.
For me right now, mine is a daily driver, so I couldn't let it sit at the trade school for a long period of time...however...I am picking up another dent Tuesday, and if the guy is on the up and up, it will just need a carb, and a tune up. We will see, but I may be able to drop mine off and let them take their time on it...
Sorry to hear about the back surgery, hope all goes well during recovery...and it stinks only being able to gather parts, and not being able to "play" around on your truck...
