I just bought a 2002 F-250 7.3 with 50000 miles. when it is at a high idel it makes a loud SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH noise out of the tail pipe (truck has stock exhaust)any body know if it is normal or if I have a problem? I have a 97 F-350
7.3 and it dont make this SHHHHHHH noise.

Im going to guess its straight piped, right? And only does it when its cold? Its normal

 

IT has stock exhaust and it was 40 deg out you can hear it when the truck goes in to fast or high idel,

 

You have nothing to worry about its your ebpv, when your truck is cold or even after youve been driving for awhile and idle for awhile this will happen to warm the engine up bucause the coolant system in these truck is so over kill that it will cool it right down at an idle
