I've done it on my explorer (8.8 axle which is just a bigger version of the 7.5 axle on the BII). It's not a difficult job. A little time consuming because you have to open the differential in order to remove the axles. The hardest part of the job was finding the proper bearing puller (T-shaped foot that fits on a slide hammer) to get the axle bearing out.
You may also find a broken pinion shaft lock bolt in the differential. That comes out real easy with the proper bolt extractor. Skyway tools has a short write up and sells a kit for extracting these bolts, if you're interested in looking it up.
One last thing, if you don't already have a Chilton's ,Haynes, or other manual, I'd get one. The basic procedure is fairly well outlined there.
