OverHeat???

I have a 89 f350 7.3 IDI I just bought about three weeks ago. The truck has been running great till the other night i stopped at my buddys house shut it off. about two hours later I fired it up let it idle about 20 minutes and it blew all the coolant out of the over flow.Only thing that seems strange to me is the fan stays locked in the clutch fan. Would this cause this being its keeping it cool?? I noticed that it runs cool when i was driving it. Good heat untill this happened. Also the coolant was cold when it came out..

you might have several things going on here. First I hope you didn't toast the motor.

You want to check your thermostats and get the clutch fan fixed..it is not suppose to stay engaged. That also hurts your fuel mileage.

Ok i will try that for sure. Its funny cause it was running and still runs great. I went out this morning and filled the radiator so i didnt waiste any coolant. I ran it about ten minutes motor stayed cool but the coolant all came out. I did this with the cap off does this matter?

well you certainly need to cap it. Starting it and letting it get warm with the cap off is not good.

You should add based upon the degas bottle.

pushing all the coolant out the overflow tank could have something to do with the thermostat being stuck closed right?

im just guessing there but it may be a possibility

radiator and hoses were all new when i bought it what has me thinking but i drove the truck like three hundred miles to my house and a week to work and it was great.I was just playin with it a little and filled up the rad with water and ran it about 5 minutes idleing the drove it about a hundred yards it had heat and all then started blowing cold again so i parked it. It then started blowing it out again,I noticed the lower rad hose is warm and the top is cold.??
