Hey everyone I have a 78 f100 302 and I went to start the truck and nothing happened. Lights came on when its on but when you turn the key to start nothing happens.
checked the battery its fine so i took some jumper cables and conected one to the positive on the battery and one to the solenoid negative and after a coupld sparks it starts up.
well I replaced the solenoid and the issue remains the same, could it be the solenoid i got is just crap? or is there any kind of wiring test i can do? any help will be appreciated. Thank you
yeah it's automatic, the neutral switch has been actng up lik eit only starts in neutral so i knew it had to be replaced soon. I'll check the cables and replace the switch first before i do the ignition switch just in case its something that doesnt need to be replaced, Thanks again for the info
You can unplug the trans. switch and use a jumper wire to bypass the trans. switch to see if it will start. be sure it is in park or it may start up and do a lot of damage . It sounds like that is where the problem is. I believe 78 is same as 79 and the switch may be mounted to the transmission ,if not then it's on the steering column.
yes its on the side. is there anything difficult about removing the switch and replacing it? or is it a easy as one two three thing?
also sorry it took awhile for me to update idk if jumping it did this but my starter for whatever reason wouldnt disengage i think and was grinding the flywheel had to get one and wait for dry weather to replace it.
