Problem with '85 302 EFI

I have an '85 302 4x4 with EFI and 4-spd - It starts and idles great no problems at all - after I take off it has good power and runs smooth - but after maybe 1 to 2 miles and it starts to warm up the engine looses power - it almost seems to die; but then seems to be running on maybe two cylinders.

I have always been able to get it back home by keeping in 4th gear and fethering the gas petal - If I push in the clutch, it will idle fine and very smooth and I can push the RPM to about 1000; but, above that, the engine starts to feel like it's running on two cylinders and has no power.

Now here's the kicker - If I turn off the engine and let it set for an hour or so - I can start it up and it will run fine the rest of the day - real good power and runs smooth.

At first I thought is was a little water in the tank and added a bottle of "Heet" - did not help.

I check the computer - The old count the flashes - I couldn't get any codes off the computer - it just flased code 11.

I have a new iginition module - one of my projects was to take it off the distributor and relocate it to the fender it does not get hot at all.

Anyone have any ideas on what to look at next?

Thanks for your help

Oscar.

I would put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see what you get. See if you have a test port on the fuel rail on the engine. If you don't, you may have to add some fittings so you can hook a gauge up.

You may not have the test pot. My 85 5.0 doesn't. Fuel pressure could very well be the problem. When my low pressure pump went out I had a hesitation when accelerating. I replaced my high pressure pump when I had a no start problem that turned out to be the ICM on the distributor.

On a side note. I bought an 82 full size Ford car that had the throttle body injection. There were two injectors. The car would start and idle fine, but would have no power under a load...like yours. It turned out that one injector had a speck of metal blocking the needle valve. I basically had half the fuel available when trying to drive. Moral of the story is that you have to have ENOUGH fuel at the correct pressure to make power.
