Am I missing something? - Differential drain plugs
WHERE THE HECK ARE THEY?!
I've found the two plugs kind of midway up on both diffs (I assume they are fill plugs) but haven't a clue where the drain plugs are. Or is that not how you do it on these trucks?
you can also take a suction gun with a hose on it and remove a good bit of oil. makes less of a mess when you pop the cover off. make sure when replacing the oil, if you have limited slip, you have to put the additive in with the new oil

How can I tell if I have limited slip? There are no identifying tags on the diffs anywhere, but there is an interesting little electrical plug looking thing on the top of the rear diff.

you have an 87 or newer truck then. the electrical connection has an eye on it, to see a wheel inside, has to do with your rear anti lock brakes. on 92 or newer, it also acts as your speedometer pick up. easiest way to tell if it's anti lock, raise both rear wheels off the ground. with the truck in neutral, turn one wheel by hand. if the opposite wheel turns the same direction, as you are turning, it's limited slip. If it turns in the opposite direction you are turning, it's an open rear.
