Identify Modifications

I bought a 2003 X PSD (Eddie Bower) last December and the truck appears to have a few modifications. I needed the truck for a bunch of trips to Florida over the winter with my sail boat racing kids but now that we're done with that for a while, its maybe time to figure out exactly what I bought.
The truck has these additional gauges - maybe that will help the experts among you. I was going to include a photo with this message but couldn't figure out how to do that. There are three gauges by Auto-Meter, the left-most gauge (Pyrometer) sets itself at 8 at 75m/h. The middle gauge which says Boost and has a Vac range and a Pressure range doesn't appear to move from the 0, and the right gauge (Fuel Pressure) doesn't appear to work at all, as it does not light up when I turn on the headlights nor does the indicator move. The truck sounds different from other diesel Excursions; it is almost like a jet engine. And it does take off like a rocket even with the boat trailer - I can really surprise people on a merge.
The truck also has quite a bit larger diameter exhaust (when compared to other diesel Excursions). It is also lifted, about 2".
What other info can or should I look for and possibly provide? Sorry if I sound a bit like a rube - this is all somewhat new to me.
In advance, many thanks.
Cheers,
Chris

A pyrometer guage is also know as your EGT gauge, aka Exhaust Gas Temp gauge.

On diesel's, it's important to monitor your EGT's when towing, especially when the rig has a custom tune.

Usually diesel owners will put a boost gauge on that doesn't measure vacuum, since our engines don't create/produce vacuum.

Along with the EGT, a boost gauge is the seond of the three most common gauges found on diesel rigs. While it's nice to have, it's main function really is to help diagnose problems should they arise.

It sounds like your boost guage is not hooked up, or the line that allows the boost to be measured is damaged.

The third most common gauge is a trans temp gauge.

What kind of intake do you have? Is it stock?

Is your turbo stock?

The truck also has quite a bit larger diameter exhaust (when compared to other diesel Excursions).
It's very common to have a 4' exhaust on these beasts.

It is also lifted, about 2"
What did you base this on?

A V code/B code spring swap would give almost that amount of lift, if your rig is a 4x4.

Pictures. Take pictures of your rig, the engine bay, your turbo, etc. Sign up for a Photobucket.com account and upload your pictures there, then post them here.

Chris

Sounds like you have a 6.0 diesel. That year had the loudest turbo. Your intake will be on the driver's side of the engine bay and the turbo will be center to the rear, near the fire wall.

It doesn't appear as if attaching the picture worked. I uploaded them to Picasa and then inserted the link into the previous message but they are not showing up.

I am by no means a diesel expert, but the intake appears to be an aftermarket K&N intake kit, or at least an open element air filter replacing the stock box. This could cause the jet engine sound. As for the turbos, you'll have to wait for the diesel experts to give insight

I think after 25 posts you can share photos. I've heard this works too: surround your link with [IMG] ' your link ' [\IMG]. Someone will correct if I've got it wrong. Better yet fork out the $19.95 for a sponsorship - well worth the $ in time/parts saved and stealership errors. Plus, you can post all kinds of photos, movies, etc.

Yeah, just 2, did you want all of um?

I would ditch the K&N and get either a stock intake or a S&B filter.

Thanks for the recommendation. The S&B looks different. Why are you suggesting I get rid of the K&N?
Cheers,
Chris
