Automatic Transmission Noise
I've got a 2003 F250 SD with 138,000 kms. on it and the last few days I've noticed a weird "buzzing" or "whirring"(sound effect from the Archie comics) sound whenever i put the truck in gear.
The sound doesn't happen when the truck is in "Park" or "Neutral", but when I have it in "Reverse" or "D", "2", or "1" the sound occurs. Also, the sound seems to intensify, and get louder, as the revs go up. When I come to a stop and put in "Neutral" or "Park" again, the noise immediately goes away and the truck revs flawlessly.
Any ideas? I just had the transmission flushed and a new filter put in about 40,000 kms. ago and the service shop, who specializes in automatic transmissions exclusively, said that it was functioning normally and that the computer showed no past error messages.
I'm thinking the trannies for these trucks are fairly expensive.
Thanks for the time. I look forward to any replies.
