Okay folks, here's my latest wrinkle. I have my idle screws set close to where I want them. The thing idles great whether I set the choke and high idle or start at low idle. Everything's normal until I drive it around for a while (especially around 40 mph or faster) then come to a stop, and the idle is about 400 or so rpm higher. When at this higher idle speed, the engine seems a little off at idle, kinda reminds me of a racing heartbeat. I have to shut the truck off to reset the idle speed back to the normal low idle. Any ideas? Electric choke/high idle is not an issue because I have a manual choke conversion.
It sounds like your screws are working loose. Maybe a new screw or get it set and hit it with a tad of super glue which if you reef on it you can break it loose, but it shouldn't free it self.
I have the same problem with my idle. I found my screws were stripped so I need a new carb anyway. I replaced my carb and now my question is what should the high ilde and low idle be set at. The carb has eletrice choke. If you guys know let me know please thanx. I didnt mean to high jake the thred sorry. O the truck has a 300 straight six under the hood.

I see you have the six cylinder. Some of the carbs they used on those are famous for the screws working loose that hold the carb together. I would wiggle the carb body around and see if anything is loose.

Thanks Franklin2, and glovemeister. That could explain why my high idle has been harder to activate lately with my choke ****. I'll check that out.
